Is Three Hours Of Exam Enough? Is It Fair?

I don’t know much about the exams in other countries, as I have never been out of Nepal. I only know about ours, and let me tell you, “The education here sucks!” At our time back then, it was like 13 years of schooling, from Nursery, L.K.G., U.K.G, and then 1-10. Then you go to college for your Intermediate studies for two years, after that three years of Bachelor’s degree, and then 2 years of Master’s degree, and then some of them will go for Ph.D. That’s about the total cycle for the education system with the amount of years we spend in studying. Each grade ends with a one year of intensive study and then at the end comes the finals. This is the time when all the students get tensed. With whole year’s studies, you only have “three hours” of time to give out what you learned throughout the whole year. Whole year, you go through different stages of researching, reading, writing, and whole lot and now the end is about to end after three hours. For each subject’s exam, we are given three hours. We have to just practically memorize the whole thing, and lots of people do fail in those exams, and you wont believe when I say more 50% of the students cheat their way out through the exams. If you visit the toilet in the exam time, you will find all sorts of guidebooks, guess papers, and books lying all over the toilet. The funny thing is there won’t be any pages left of the questions that come in the exams. The pages of those questions will be torn out and ripped off and somebody will be copying it in the exam hall. Well I don’t blame those students either, coz I truly am against this exam thing. After every exam, I will have my fingers sore out and swollen, with all those three hours of intense writing, and most of our question will be subjective and we have to write like a “whole book” out of those questions. Lots of student wont even finish it in those three hours as some might have slow writing speed. So even though you know the answers, you wont be able to finish them, and they will never know that you knew all the answers. So I really hate our examining system.
I think exams are supposed to be undertaken in order to judge and see what we got through our studies and experience in those subject matter or rather just memorize the whole thing, and it surely shouldn’t have time limits as three hours of time or such for one subject where you will be like so busy and worrying about not getting enough time writing whole things down. May be someday our system of education, with the way of taking exams, will change for good and students will be able to express out what they have learned for real.
