Saturday - Basektball Time!

Saturday, July 21, 2007

It's Saturday here in Kathmandu, Nepal as of this moment, and the time is 6:00 AM (exact) right now. I am sure lots of my friends are sleeping right now and must be dreaming about basketball or may be the girl of their dreams. As usual, Saturday, we gather around at about 5 pm in the summertime in our home court of Tri-Chandra College and get ready for our game. Well there are lots of my friends and they have different groups within them and most of them have different programs for the Saturdays as it is the only holiday here in Nepal. Most of the time, I am with my basketball teammates on Saturdays. It is the day when we gather together and have fun playing basketball. Whenever I play, I tend to forget my every problems and situations of my daily life. I am just in that game enjoying myself and having the time of my life. It really is a golden moment and the feeling is just so awesome. It makes you feel like you are alive and flying across the court with the ball in your hand.

Well lately the passion and love for the game amongst my friends have decreased a lot. I don't know whether it is the older age or lack of interest or getting busy with their lives but it is keeping us apart from gathering even once a week. Even I haven't gone to play for the past three weeks. It is due to me being busy with another group of friends and sometimes I am not energetic enough to go and play the game. I am so dull as I work at nights and sleep at daytime. Last month too when I go to play the first game will be so poor and I would always tire a lot in my first game. It is only the second and the rest game that my stamina comes back and I am able to play my game. Most of the time we don't have enough players to play the full game. We have namely, Me (Amrit), Sameer, Samundra, Rajit, Nishresh, Prabin, Unish, and Bijay as the regular players who do come regularly during the Saturdays. Other than that Bikash sometimes shows up may be once in a month or so. Sameer and I had quite a fun with one incident with Bikash. We both sent him the same sms saying "if you want to get blocked by me come to play tomorrow." Surprisingly, he did come that day and he got a block from both me and Sameer that day. We always keep irritating with our friends but we don't mind it and get too personal about it and try to have fun with it.

So today it is another Saturday and it is basketball time. Like every Saturday our friends must be waiting for that 5 p.m. where they will reach to the court and experience the enjoyment of their lives and have some good time playing basketball. Well I am but I am not sure if I will be able to manage the time for today. If I don't make it, I am sure going to miss the time that I enjoy the most, that's playing basketball! The game that I love the most!

MJ, Vince, Kobe, T-Mac - Who Is The Best?

Thursday, July 19, 2007

I just have to publish this post right here, as I just watched an old video clips of MJ (Michael Jordan), Vince (Vince Carter), Kobe (Kobe Bryant), and T-Mac (Tracy McGrady). Though the video is one year's old, the scenes and the athleticism of these four superstar players is so spectacular. This video reveals how they act and play on the court and show their talent in the game they love the most. They put their body on the lines and work their way to the hoop. Although lots of other new rookies have evolved in these recent years and this video only reveals the awesome things only these four guys do, and it cannot be predicted and decided who is the best as of yet. This video shows all the main highlights of these four players and does reveal in which way they can perform and entertain us, and hence making them the best player ever to evolve in the history of NBA. It is hard to determine who is the best ever but still lots of people still think Michael Jordan should be crowned the best basketball player ever. Well watch this video! May be it will help you decide and answer the question - Who Is The Best? Enjoy!!!

NBA Finals 2007 - Cavs v Spurs Game 4

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

I still cannot believe that NBA is over for this season. I was at least expecting that Cavaliers would at least fight back give make it may be 4-3 or may be 4-2 win to Spurs but they were so helpless against the Spurs. I do not know if Spurs played their best games with Cavs yet as we can see Tim Duncan, three times MVP, has so low score of 12 points for the finals and most of the games were below 80 points. Spurs has always been a high-scoring team. Even in the games they lose, their scores was there. Despite their low score at the finals, Cavs still lost to the Spurs. I have found this video below at youtube.com which describes the whole game with all the details of what went wrong and what went right. I didn't quite much expected that game to be final one but Spurs own Mano Ginobili at the end made it happen and the result, SPurs victorious in Game 4 at Cleveland for this NBA Finals 2007.

Spurs - The Champions of 2007 NBA Finals

Monday, June 18, 2007

As I had predicted, this year’s champ are the oldest team in the NBA for this season, being eight older guys playing from Spurs. Spurs truly showed the meaning of basketball and how it is played this season. Yeah! It’s all about teamwork. One man can never win anything, not a game not a war or anything else for that matter, on his own. Same thing has happened in the past with lots of teams in the NBA. One-man team may win a game but cannot win a championship final. Kobe Bryant is a great player and he has the biggest numbers when it comes to the field goals but he too was unable to bring his team to the finals. Well LeBron James did. He brought his team to the finals but that was his stop. The pressure was against the Cleveland Cavaliers and mostly the pressure was against LeBron James. He has been there leading his team throughout the season and in the finals no one seems to be backing up for him. They were so helpless against the Spurs in all the games. Their poor defense and mostly offense had them lose the finals with 4-0 loss with the San Antonio Spurs.

The final score at Game 4 was 83-82. Manu Ginobili scored game-high 27 points, while Tony Parker had 24 points, and Tim Duncan had 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Spurs which led them to the championship of the best-of-seven championship series.

The French guard Parker, who will be marrying actress Eva Longoria next month, became the first ever European player to become The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the NBA Finals. He had an average of nearly 25 points a game. Parker’s said, “It’s like a dream.” He didn’t knew about him being the MVP. He just moved on and led his team to victory. That is the true heart of the champion and play of a professional basketball player with teamwork in mind, and Tony Parker had it all. He just led his team to victory this season.

LeBron James, the Starr of the Cavaliers had 24 points despite shooting only 10 out of 30. He did as much as he can though. He brought his team to this level in the NBA Finals. He could do nothing against the tight defense of the Spurs for the final games. Yet it is Cleveland Cavaliers' first time NBA Finals appearance. I am sure in next season they will have some answers to their problems. Lets hope that Cleveland gets help to James next season and may their teams have much to show in the next season.

Other highlights of the finals included San Antonio’s Michael Finley who won his first title after 12 NBA seasons. Robert Horry now has his seventh career crown. The MVP Tony Parker became the youngest player in NBA history to make 100 playoff appearances, reaching the century mark after 25 years and 28 days, 216 days quicker than Kobe Bryant’s old mark.

So now it’s a wrap-up of NBA for this season. Though it is quite depressing to know that the finals are over and so is the NBA for this season, there is still this question and excitement of knowing what’s next for the next season. I will surely miss the NBA seasons but I am sure lots of trades and news will still be on for the NBA in off seasons as well. I really love this game.

Duncan And Parker Leading Spurs As The Next 2007 Champions

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

I might be quick at decision-making but this time I think my decision or prediction is surely going to be the reality. I was quite busy so I didn’t get the chance to write about the Spurs victory over Cavaliers. The first game was just so awesome. It was Parker and Duncan and who were running the show, and the second game, same thing again; Parker, Parker, and Parker. So if Parker continues this streak, Duncan pursue to become MVP this season might be jeopardized by Parker.

Well he is small but quick and mostly he scores and steals. Yeah it’s Parker again whom I am talking about. Personally, I am a big fan of Tim Duncan, a three-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, but lately Tony Parker has been so good that he might leave all his teammates behind and go to the victory by himself. I know one man cannot beat any team but with the help of his teammates he can. With all the help from the big and old players, Parker is helping his team go and win the championship this season. In Game 1 of best-of-seven championship series, Parker scored 27 points and made 7 assists. Duncan scored 24 points and had 13 rebounds to give the Spurs 1-0 lead and the final score was 85-76. In Game 2, Parker scored 30 points and Duncan scored 23 points and 9 rebounds and 8 assists to again give one more victory to Spurs and the final score again remained 103-92. Now the San Antonio Spurs are up with 2-0 lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

While Duncan and Parker were scoring and rebounding and assisting, LeBron James had pretty hard time scoring and making his moves, and this might have led their team lose those two games. The Cavaliers are having a bad losing streak. If this streak carries on my prediction for this season’s champions being Spurs will certainly become a reality and finally Spurs will be once again crowned as The NBA Champions for 2007.

NBA Finals Tonight-Spurs Versus Cavalier

Thursday, June 07, 2007

Finally the season's final game of the greatest game of basketball in USA is here. Though things didn't turn out as I predicted, I would be definitely watching out for San Antonio Spurs to win a massive victory over Cleveland Cavaliers. I am not directly criticizing Cavs but I seriously think that Spurs gonna have it done this time, and it will be easy for Spurs.

Personally, I think Pistons defense is way to better than Cavs, and I truly believe "defense is the best offense." If you don't have your defensive part, you will never win the game. Lots of examples are there in the history of not only NBA but any other teamwork game. This is a game of team, and no single man can win the championship. I respect MJ the most but he too wouldn't have done it if there was no greatest players like Pipen, Stockton, Rodman, and other teammates behind his back to support him and help him both offensively and defensively. Likewise Indiana Pacers had Reggie Miller and he was the heart of that team and in the finals they didn't win because it was too one-man team, and this season it is Kobe with LA Lakers, same result; great player but no teamwork and no defense at all. So they lost. So this time Cavs are here. I have to give them a big round of applause for gaining this success and reaching to the finals. They were down to 2-0 in the league in the Eastern Conference, but they somehow beat the odds and are now here at the finals. But like they say, nothing is impossible, so it can be anybody's game in this final. Lets keep watching. I can't wait till today to watch the exciting first tip off of the NBA Finals 2007. I just love this game!

Spurs Defeated Jazz For The NBA Finals

Friday, June 01, 2007

I would just say the game I saw today was just one-way and fully dominated game. It was Spurs versus Jazz again in San Antonio. San Antonio Spurs had 3-1 lead over Jazz, and today’s win would take Spurs to the NBA Finals. I didn’t get to see the first quarter but I was there from the second. I find Jazz so helpless with Spurs. I couldn’t find any blunder mistakes with Jazz either. It must be that the Spurs are doing fabulous and were unbeatable today. They had more than 15 points lead throughout the game.

As usual, Tony Parker showed his quickness and his ability to pass the ball to the right person and run the floor without showing any fatigueness. Tim Duncan, what can I say, he was just so awesome being the man of his age. He was the captain of the team today. He had so much of sportsmanship to show today. The game today was really too friendly though it was underdog game for Jazz. They didn’t panic that much as I had guessed they would. They just kept their cool. Manu Ginobili, as usual, quick on the way to the basket and had fabulous shooting skills. Between second half, the commentator said, “There is nobody today who can guard like Ginobili and score like Ginobili.” And other commentator said, “Well Kobe Bryant is available…” I was laughing all the time with those lines. Really in that quarter, Ginobili was unstoppable. No one could guard him and his shooting was just so awesome. From the second half I was pretty sure that Spurs would win today’s game, the way they played. They were so much confident, may be because they were playing at home.

Jazz had nothing right today. They had less shooting opportunity, as the Spurs defense was pretty tight. Derek Fisher wasn’t present until third quarter in today’s game as his little daughter was being treated in the hospital for retinoblastoma (cancer of the eyes). At the half time, the cameraman showed him entering the building, and he was there in the third quarter, but it was too late as the Jazz were way too down and were just so helpless and were sure of getting a loss over Spurs today. So at the final time, Duncan and Parker each finished with 21 points and Manu Ginobili scored only 12. From Utah, Andrei Kirilenko had 13 points, Williams and Matt Harpring each scored 11 points, Carlos Boozer had nine on 3-of-10 shooting, and Fisher had only two free throws in 15 minutes. The final score remained 109-84 and the Spurs advanced to the NBA Finals. May be my prediction is going to be the reality this time. Spurs has their win it’s only the Detroit Pistons who has got way too much to go as they are tied up 2-2 against Cleveland Cavaliers. But who knows? The Spurs has lots of old players in it. And at the end when Parker was asked, “You guys have seven days of rest left now. Do you need it?” His answer was, “Yeah! We have lots of old guys in our team. We definitely need this rest.” So may be after this long seven-day rest, they will be ready to reach the glory and win the championship this season. I would just say Go Spurs Go!!! And will be hooting for them for their next game, i.e. The NBA Finals 2007.

My Prediction - Spurs Versus Pistons In NBA Finals

Saturday, May 26, 2007

With San Antonio Spurs 2-0 win over Utah Jazz from the Western Conference Finals and now Detroit Pistons doing the same job 2-0 against Cleveland Cavaliers from the Eastern Conference Finals, I am having this strong feeling that the two teams will face each other this season's final of the greatest game of basketball, NBA.

Well Till next game, it is yet undecided but both of the teams, Spurs and Pistons, if they will win that game. The next game for Spurs is in the home court of Jazz. Well it was an easy game for the first time in Jazz's home ground, but this time they are under pressure so they are definitely going to give their bestest best given the fact of the home court advantage. Duncan was commenting in his last game that it's going to be underdog fight between them, and that is so true.

For Pistons, it was Thursday night that they won by 79-76 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron James of the Cavaliers had hard time finding his ways to beat the Pistons. Piston has shown their teamwork quality in the past by wining championship in the past too, and they still have got it this season. At the end of that game at 24.3 second remaining, Rasheed Wallace of Pistons jumper gave the Pistons a one-point lead. After that, Richard Hamilton hit two free throws the score remained 79-76 at the end. I didn't get the full game but I saw the final part, but I am now pretty much sure that Cavaliers had pretty rough time with Pistons.

Now that the finals are on and everybody is waiting for the next games, I have this strange feeling that it's going to be like 2005, the NBA finals, Spurs Versus Pistons. It's only I cannot predict as of now who is going to win that NBA championship this year. Well it's only my prediction but who knows miracles do happen. So lets keep watching the game that i love the most. NBA - I love this game!

Spurs Win Over Jazz – One Step Closer To Championship

Friday, May 25, 2007

Yesterday was quite fun watching NBA after quite some long time. It was San Antonio Spurs versus Utah Jazz. Though I watched the match from the second half only, the match was like one-way ride from that point onwards. Spurs took the lead throughout the game. Jazz was never close enough to give Spurs any trouble of panic as such.

The cameraman was showing up Derek Fisher putting his hands on his forehead and nodding while he was on the bench. Manu Ginobili showed some of his superb skill of quickness and scored 17 points but he had some misses too but he never gave up and kept them coming. The heart of the Spurs, Tim Duncan, had 26 points and 14 rebounds but I think he wasn’t fully there in that game. I wonder if he has more to show for the next game. He has been one of my favorite players in NBA, and his and mine shooting styles are quite similar with our hands raised high up while we score. It was in the fourth quarter that Bowen started hitting three of his three pointers. He doesn’t scores quite much but he is there when his team needs him, both defensively and offensively.

Jazz’s players had some highlights too, with Carlos Boozer scoring 33 points 15 rebounds but it wasn’t enough to beat Spurs in their own home court. At last, Tony Parker sealed the game with his final and only three pointer of his own this game at 105-96. So now Spurs move one step closer to the championship through the Western Conference Finals with the 2-0 lead over Utah Jazz. I think Spurs is going for one more win and may be holding their one more championship trophy this season.

Lakers Out From The Semis

Thursday, May 03, 2007

With lost of Lakers to Suns 119-110 this Wednesday night, my hope for Kobe breaking some more records went down to doom. The Suns never trailed and lead the game all the way. They knew that Lakers would come back in second round. Amare Stoudemire said, “It was a desperate game for them, so you knew they would fight back in the second half.” But no matter what tactics Lakers used, the Suns were able to beat there every move. The game consisted of lots of free throws by the Suns that night, mostly Stoudemire with 21 free throws. He was able to make 15 of his attempts. Stoudemire had 27 points and 16 rebounds for this game.

Bryant scored 34 but it was not just enough. It was just 13-33 from the field. May be the happy and proud new father, Raja Bell, was too much determined to defense Bryant this night. Bell’s wife gave birth to their first child just six hours before the tipoff of this game.

So, Lakers go down and would have to wait for next season for trying for NBA Championship while the Suns advances to one step forward to the Western Conference semifinal match up to Round 2 where they will face San Antonio Spurs, who eliminated Denver in five games.

Kobe scores 50 again with Lakers victory over Seattle

Monday, April 16, 2007

Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles, Lakers’ own, scores his 10th 50 points this season. His amazing shooting skills led him to this stage. Bryant finished with 50 points on 18-of-25. His shootings carried the Lakers to a 109-98 victory over Seattle this Sunday night that clinched a playoff spot for Los Angeles. Lakers have been having hard time winning the games. This is their third win in 11 games. And after the win Kobe said, ““We feel much better. We needed this type of win.” Bryant was saying when the playoff starts he may shoot some more or may not but their defense needs a lot of work. His exact words were, “If the jumper is on, we’ll ride it out. If it’s not, we’ll have to find another way to win. Our defensive continuity is going to be our biggest challenge.” Phil Jackson, coach of the LA Lakers, has the record of never missing the NBA playoffs throughout his 17-year career in NBA as a coach but he too thinks Lakers need a lot of working to do.

Bryant’s score of 50 or more for the 10th time this season is now the third-highest total in NBA history behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 45 times with 50 or more in 1961-62, and Chamberlain’s 30 times the following season. Bryant still will have lot to do for the first place in that board. This is Bryant’s 21st time that he scored his 50th points.

I still doubt that the Lakers will ever go to the finals and win the championship. So far, Lakers are still depending on their key player, Kobe Bryant, but they have to realize that basketball is never one-man game. Teamwork and mostly defense is the only quality that Lakers lack at this time. I still have my fingers crossed over here and hope Bryant shows some of his skills and break some records by this playoff.

TC Basketball court- Our Home Court

Wednesday, April 04, 2007

TC stands for Tri-Chandra College. TC is one of the oldest college of Kathmandu or Nepal as a whole. In the heart of TC, there is the monument, “Ghanta Ghar,” Roman-styled clock which gives NST (Nepali Standard Time). And the opposite of that monument there is another monument called “Rani Pokhari.” Besides the “Rani Pokhari” is the central office and building of TC, and at the corner we have our own basketball court, which has been our home court since 9-10 years back. Since college, we started playing there. Though we are not the actual student of TC, we have been involved in several games from TC. People there have respect on us and they know us as TC Basketball players. Most of them even don’t know that we haven’t ever studied there but as we always hang around there and play basketball not only for fun but even participated in several tournaments from TC team. At those times, we used to play daily throughout the day. Sometimes, I don’t even have my food and I will be playing all day long in those sunny days, as the result of which we get skin burn. But who cares? As long as we have basketball to play. We just love the game and more often love to play and have fun with it. I don’t know the exact measurement of the court but it seems pretty big than the usual ones. I believe it must be of NBA professional court. It is the biggest courtyard I have know that ever exists in Nepal. One in Tribhuwan University is a big court as well but I think TC’s court is even bigger than that one as the 3-point range is pretty far as compared to Tribhuwan University’s court. As time went by, lots of our friends went abroad and we have less friends who are regular players there now. So from daily, it has become once a week on Saturdays that we play in our home court. I hope in future, we still will have the same number of friends remaining and I am afraid it wouldn’t be once a year play or so. For now I am enjoying once a week game on Saturdays. Lets play some hoop guys! In our own home court! TC Court!!!

Kobe Bryant! May be next MJ

Friday, March 09, 2007

Kobe Bryant, one of my favorite player in NBA. He is 6 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 210 pounds, and plays from the Los Angeles, Lakers. He is the youngest man ever to play in the NBA at the age of 18 years and 2 months and 11 days. I am quite fascinated by his quick moves and his distinctive dunking styles and his superb shooting skills. It just increases my adrenaline rush and makes me more interested in watching the games he plays. There are lots of NBA superstars in the NBA who makes us say, I Love This Game!!! Among those, Kobe is one of the best players. As stated, his moves and game has leaded his team Lakers to most of the playoffs and some championship trophies too. He acted as Robin with his co-superstar Shaquille O’Neal so called Batman in one of the finals. The pair led the Lakers to NBA championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Something about Kobe:
Born: 23 August 1978
Birthplace: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Family: Son of Joe (a professional basketball player and coach) and Pam Bryant. Married Vanessa Laine, 2001. Has a daughter, Natalia.
Education: Graduate of Lower Merion High School, Ardmore, PA.
Career: Drafted 13th pick in the first round of the 1996 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft by Charlotte Hornets; traded to Los Angeles Lakers, July 1996; signed with Lakers, July 24, 1996.
Achievements and awards: Named National High School Player of the Year by USA Today, 1996; named Naismith Player of the Year, 1996; named Gatorade Circle of Champions High School Player of the Year, 1996; named to McDonald's All-American team, 1996; played in NBA Rookie All-Star Game, 1997; won Slam Dunk competition during 1997 NBA All-Star Weekend; NBA All-Star game Most Valuable Player, 2002; All-NBA First Team, 2002, 2003, 2004; All-NBA Defensive First Team, 2002, 2003, 2004.
Best Known As: Superstar guard of the Los Angeles Lakers
Conflicts and turmoil: 2003, his reputation was tainted by a sexual assault case in which Katelyn Faber from Colorado accused him of rape. 2004, a dispute between himself and Karl Malone became public prior to expected re-signing of Malone with the Lakers. Bryant claimed Malone made inappropriate comments to his wife but Malone denied it and said the comments were in jest and Bryant is overreacting.

Okay so that’s about Kobe that I found out through internet research and through what I have in my knowledge. I am glad about this blog post I posted today as I had pretty much of quality time researching and gaining more knowledge of one of my favorite player, Kobe Bryant.

Air Jordan– Born to Fly

Saturday, March 03, 2007

He scores flying in the air, he dunks flying in air and slams it home, he dribbles and before you blink your eyes he is there for the hoop, he belongs in the air may be that is why he is well known as “Air Jordan.” Yeah, I am talking about the greatest player in the NBA history, our own MJ, Michael Jeffrey Jordan. He was born on January of 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated his High School from Laney (Wilmington, N.C.) and his College from North Carolina. He was drafted by Chicago Bulls in 1984 (third overall). He is 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs over 216 pounds. It was his one of the Slam Dunk Contests performance when he dunked the ball from the foul line and earned his name as “Air Jordan” and “His Airness.” He really had unique combination of fundamental soundness, grace, speed, power, artistry, improvisational ability, and an unquenchable competitive desire that lead Jordan single-handedly redefined the NBA superstar. He was just extraordinary.

He has honors such as:
Six-time NBA champion (1991-93, 1996-98); NBA MVP (1988, '91, '92, '96, '98); 10-time All-NBA First Team (1987-93, 1996-98); All-NBA Second Team (1985); Defensive Player of the Year (1988); Nine-time All-Defensive First Team (1988-93, 1996-98); Rookie of the Year (1985); 14-time All-Star; All-Star MVP (1988, '96, '98); One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996); Two-time Olympic gold medallist (1984, '92).

Summary of his stats:
G FG% 3PFG% FT% Rebs RPG Asts APG Stls Blks Pts PPG
1,072 .497 .327 .835 6,672 6 .2 5,633 5.3 2,514 893 32,292 30.1

That’s my Air Jordan. The only person I had been admiring since I was a kid and will as I think no one can outlast his Airness. His name will stand there forever. No matter what, he will still have respect in years to come.
